When Dr. Melissa Rich moved to Waco in September of 2014, she wasn’t planning to start over — but that’s exactly what happened.
After 28+ years working as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Oklahoma, Melissa knew the therapy field inside and out. She had spent decades helping people navigate trauma, marriage struggles, anxiety, and life’s hardest seasons. But when she arrived in Central Texas, she felt something shifting.
She was tired. Burned out. Ready for something different.
For about eight years prior, she had been using hypnosis as a tool within her therapy practice and had seen how powerful it could be. Clients were experiencing change more quickly. The work felt lighter. The results lasted.
And she realized something important: hypnosis wasn’t a shortcut — it was simply a more direct path.
So in 2014, she launched Waco Hypnosis Center. And she’ll tell you without hesitation — she loves it.
But the move to Waco wasn’t just professional. It was deeply personal.
After her husband passed away in 2011, Melissa spent a few more years in Oklahoma while her two sons finished college. Eventually, she looked around and realized she was the only single one left in her circle of friends. It felt like her chapter there had closed.
She sensed God calling her to Waco, where two of her brothers and their families lived — one in Belton and one in Robinson — along with her sister and her dad at the time.
Today, she lives in Hewitt and has built both a business and a community she deeply values.
Her mission is clear: help people improve their health and wellness using natural, alternative approaches
More and more people are looking for options beyond medication — something less intrusive, less harmful, and more empowering. That’s where Melissa’s work fits beautifully.

That’s where Melissa’s work fits beautifully. Through hypnosis, tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), and cognitive restructuring, she helps clients rewire patterns that have kept them stuck.
But she’s quick to clarify something many people misunderstand: hypnosis is not a magic wand. It’s powerful, yes — but clients still have to participate in the process. Change requires intention and effort. Hypnosis simply makes that change more accessible.
What makes her work deeply meaningful is the transformation she gets to witness.
She has helped people stop smoking — even after 30+ years. She’s seen stress and anxiety levels drop. She’s watched clients begin sleeping better, losing weight, and reclaiming healthier lives overall. Seeing someone feel better, function better, and enjoy life more never gets old.

She loves serving anyone who is struggling to be healthier. Watching change unfold — sometimes faster than they expected — is one of the most rewarding parts of her calling.
Her hope for Waco is simple: that people take better care of themselves, feel healthier, and enjoy their families and lives more fully.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys reading, eating well (she emphasizes that part!), working out, and crafting. She’s also kept active by two small but mighty fur babies — Chewy, a Terrier mix, and Farley, a Chiweenie.
And speaking of Farley…
A few years ago, Melissa took both dogs for a walk at Warren Park in Hewitt. Farley had only been with her a few weeks and was still adjusting. Despite being in a supposedly “escape-proof” harness, he slipped out and took off running. Melissa chased him across the park, growing more frantic by the minute. With no one around to help and Farley refusing to be caught, the situation escalated when he ran down a steep ravine toward the creek. She quickly realized she couldn’t safely climb down — and even if she could, she’d never make it back up carrying him. So she did the only thing she could think of. She called the police. A Hewitt officer arrived, climbed down the ravine, caught Farley (who had apparently decided the adventure was over), and carried him safely back up. Melissa was nearly in tears with relief. To this day, she remains deeply grateful for that unexpected rescue.
It’s one of those stories that perfectly captures her heart — determined, resourceful, and deeply devoted to those she loves.
Melissa is also active in the community. She’s the current president of Female Executives of Waco, a member of Women of Waco, and has attended Highland Baptist Church for nearly 12 years.
Something many people don’t know about her is that she grew up in Latin America — Costa Rica, Mexico, and Panama — where her parents were missionaries. She speaks, reads, and writes Spanish (a little rusty, she admits). While she doesn’t offer full hypnosis sessions in Spanish, much of it comes back when she has the chance to use it.
Looking ahead, Melissa wants to continue helping people improve their health and wellness — not just locally, but beyond Texas. She’s strengthening her online presence so she can reach individuals who may not have access to alternative wellness options in their own communities.
And one more thing she wants readers to know: her background is deeply faith-based, and she offers faith-based sessions for clients who want that integration. For those who prefer a secular approach, she offers that as well.
At the end of the day, Dr. Melissa Rich isn’t trying to perform magic. She’s helping people do the work — with the right tools — so they can live healthier, fuller lives.
And in Waco, that kind of care is changing more lives than most people realize.
